The 10th Annual Sohn Hearts & Minds Conference marked our biggest year yet, taking over a larger Sydney Opera House theatre thanks to The Australian Ballet and welcoming almost 1,000 delegates. It was a milestone moment for our community sharing bold ideas and investment insights that ultimately fuel better outcomes for Australian medical research.
Federal Treasurer Jim Chalmers opened the day with a grounded and optimistic outlook for “Australia Inc.”, outlining the nation’s economic strengths amid global uncertainty. His framing set the tone for a program that moved confidently between geopolitics, megatrends, and markets.
Across the sessions, we explored American re-industrialisation, shifting energy dynamics, resilient business models, demographic tailwinds, and emerging opportunities in entertainment, construction, technology and global insurance markets. Presenters from around the world brought their most compelling ideas, from US steel and Finnish retail to Indian financial platforms, robotic-driven manufacturing and the strategic logic of gold in an age of geopolitical drift.
Along the way, the speakers acknowledged a persistent force shaping global markets: Donald Trump, who managed to feature in everything from trade tensions and technology to macro volatility - an unavoidable macro character in 2025. Even so, the underlying themes were clear: disciplined thinking, humility in decision-making, and the importance of understanding the wider forces shaping the investment landscape.
By the end of the day, SH&M 2025 had once again demonstrated that complexity and clarity can coexist, and that good humour helps. Now, all roads lead to our greatest adventure yet: Queenstown 2026.
Read our full recap here, which dives deeper into the ideas, themes, and conversations that shaped an unforgettable milestone year.
